Jansen Remorin Quiros' Obituary
JANSEN REMORIN QUIROS, known as Handsome by family, was born on May 15, 1996, in Hayward, California to Juanito (Johnny) Millo Quiros and Eufrocinia (Precy) Remorin Quiros. He leaves behind his older brother, Jason Remorin Quiros, and his parents.Jansen grew up in Union City, California, surrounded by many uncles, aunts, and cousins. He attended Alvarado Elementary School and Middle School, where he began his commitment to his academics and extracurricular activities that he would pursue all his life. He woke up early every day for jazz band practice, where he played the trombone. He started competing with the school Track and Field Team in the 8th grade, and also the CYO Track Team of his local parish, St. Anne Catholic Church. He managed to remain a 4.0 Honor Roll student throughout.Jansen attended James Logan High School in Union City, where he continued to excel in both sports and academics. He was an active member and Team Captain in the school’s Cross Country and Track and Field Program. His achievements include: James Logan Scholar Athlete of the Year, 2012 All-American, and 2013 Cross Country State Qualifier. With his leadership, Jansen was able to help drive his Cross Country Team to reach its greatest season in its history. Jansen was able to balance this with an equally rigorous academic workload, completing several Advanced Placement and Honors courses. He graduated in 2014 as a Summa Cum Laude with a 4.5 GPA, successfully maintaining ranking in the Superintendent Honor Roll all four years.This pursuit of academic excellence continued with his acceptance to the University of California-San Diego (UCSD), in the Fall of 2014. Passionate about space exploration, Jansen was pursuing a B.S. in Physics with a specialization in Material Physics, as well as a Minor in Engineering Mechanics. His collegiate achievements are extensive: Judicial Board member for Sixth College Student Council, President of Pi Alpha Phi Fraternity, and Quality Assurance Intern for Space Micro, Inc.He served as a Propulsion Team Lead Engineer for Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS@UCSD), where he mentored his own team of undergrads on the advancement of rocket propulsion technology. Jansen led his team to test a satellite engine at Purdue University, and, shortly after, present a new rocket engine design at NASA Ames. He was an established point of contact with the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, and was expected to meet with the organization again in mid-January 2018.Jansen continued to maintain a healthy lifestyle by becoming an active member of Triton Barbell, a UCSD weightlifting and powerlifting club, and competed in several tournaments. His hobbies included watching Game of Thrones, playing NBA 2K with his friends, and exploring different kinds of coffee. Jansen loved spending time and creating memories with his girlfriend, Kim Kha.
