In Loving Memory of Janis Delores MortimerJanis Delores Mortimer was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on August 30, 1927 to Bertha and Julian Campbell; she graduated from Ottumwa High at the top of her class. Janis (Campbell) married Lawrence Mortimer who was serving our country at that time as a steward in the Navy on December 24, 1946. Much later, a daughter was born; Nancy Delores Mortimer. They lived in Ottumwa, Iowa for many years before moving to San Leandro, California.Janis considered herself a Homemaker rather than a Housewife and was a shining light throughout the years in the East Bay Community. Janis served as Church Secretary for several years, taught Bible School, and enjoyed being a long time member of the Humane Society; she was also a loving Mother and Wife. Among her many talents and hobbies, she played piano, was artistic, enjoyed reciting poetry and giving speeches, was an avid cook and baker, enjoyed sewing, gardening, grooming her poodles and looking fashionable. Janis elegance, style, good heartedness and sparkling personality were enjoyed by everyone.On November 11, 2017 Janis departed this lifetime and will be missed by all; she leaves her husband, Lawrence Mortimer and Daughter, Nancy D. Mortimer to carry on. Janis has one surviving Sister, Joanne Payne in Sacramento, California as well as nieces and nephews, and other relatives. Janis has two departed sisters: Fern Lewis Jackson and Dorcas Rebecca Edmondson. The love, beauty and intellect Janis shared will never be forgotten.In lieu of flowers, the family requests those wishing to make donations in memory of Janis Mortimer do so with the Humane Society of America.A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 2nd, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home, 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward, CA 94544.
