Janet Carolyn Preston's Obituary
Janet Carolyn Preston Nov. 6, 1929 – Dec. 5, 2011 Resident of Hayward, CA Passed away quietly at her home of more than 49 years in Hayward, CA. Janet joins her husband, Frank C. Preston (USMC, Hayward PD, and US Customs ret.), father, Capt. Herman F. Gingrich (USNSC) ret., mother, Louise E. Gingrich and brothers, David and Richard. Loving Mother of sons Mark, Whitney, and Brian. Grandmother to Christopher, Jennifer, Griffin, Mitchell and Samantha. Great-Grandma to Matthew. Janet was a world traveler, born in the Philippines, first birthday in China, lived in Cuba, and both coasts of the United States. Most of her travel was due to being the daughter of a Navy officer. She also traveled as a member of the Women’s Army Corps to Japan and all across the U.S., both as an enlisted person and as an officer. Janet met Frank on the rifle range while stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco, CA. She was a member of the Rebekah Assembly of CA and served as State President in 1989-90. She also served in the IOOF, Eastern Star, DAR, and Coast Guard Auxiliary as Flotilla Commander. Memorial services will be held at the Chapel of the Chimes (Mission Chapel) in Hayward on Friday, December 16 at 1:00 pm.
