Iluminada De Asis Gimalay's Obituary
Our “Nanay”, Iluminada “Luming” DeAsis Gimalay was born to Severo DeAsis and Romana Alcantara on November 29, 1927 in Tanay, Rizal, Philippines. Luming completed her Bachelor’s degree in Education at the University of The East in 1949. She married her long time sweetheart, Benigno “Binong” Gimalay on October 30, 1955. Together, they had six children: Bazil, Adora, Agnes, Bernard, Angelica and Bernie.
In 1979, her husband, Binong and their daughter, Adora left the Philippines to pursue a better life for the family. Luming was left behind caring for their other five children by herself.
After two years, Luming and their four younger children joined her husband, Binong and daughter, Adora. And after a year, the joy of Luming were fulfilled when oldest son, Bazil came and her family were all together again. The family lived in Oakland for over 30 years.
Luming was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, Auntie and friend. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Luming.
Luming retired at the age of 75 with 20 years of service from San Francisco Muni transit.
Preceded in death by her husband, Benigno and her sisters: Liwanag Arellano and Clarita Fulgado. She is survived by her children: son, Bazil, daughter-in-law, Amorfina,; daughter, Adora, son-in-law, Lucio Bandoma; daughter, Agnes,; son, Bernard,; daughter-in-law, Dolores,; daughter, Angelica,; son, Bernie, daughter-in-law, Joanne,; Luming’s grandchildren: Gail Christine, Francis, Jerald, Angela, Raeggie, Raymond, Maly, Benjie, Lilu,; and her great grandchildren: Desiree, Chloe, Nevaeh, Jaden, Lea, Seth and Mason.
