Ida Lee Moore's Obituary
Ida Ok Sun Lee Moore passed away Friday. She touched many lives with her gentle spirit and infectious personality. She will be greatly missed. Ida was born at the Queen’s Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii on September 10, 1922 of Korean ancestry. She was given the name Ida Ok Sun Lee. Her Korean middle name “Ok Sun” means “Heavenly Angel”. She is the eldest of two sisters and two brothers (now deceased). She attended Farrington High School where she was a member of gleeclub, choir and the high school debate team. She graduated from high school in 1939 fluent in English, French, and Korean. In 1941 she became employed at the Ford Island Naval Facility at Pearl Harbor. Her job was to inspect and test aircraft instruments for military fighter aircraft. it was while working at this facility that she met her future husband, the naval officer in charge of the department where she worked. They were married one year later in the fall (November) of 1942. They established a home in Kalihi Valley. Both Ida and her husband are Pearl Harbor survivors having survived the attack on Pearl Harbor on the morning of December 7, 1941. Shortly after WWII had ended her husband was transferred to his next duty station at Alameda Naval Air Station. In 1947 they bought a home in the rural community of Castro Valley. This area at that time was composed of chicken ranches, orchards and open farmland. Ida worked locally for many years in retail sales as a bridal consultant. In the 1960’s Liberty House opend it first flagship store on the west coast in the Southland Mall in Hayward. Ida was highly coveted by Liberty House management and was ultimately hired to run their bridal department. With her infectious personality, she soon became popular with all her fellow co-workers young and old alike. She retired from retail sales in the late 1970’s. Ida is blessed with four sons’ one daughter five grandsons and four great grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Thursday July 30, 2015 from 5-9 P.M. and funeral services on Friday July 31, 2015 at the Mission Chapel located at the Chapel of the Chimes 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA. 94544
