Hok Tong Kung's Obituary
Hok Tong Kung, 88 Hok Tong Kung, 88, of Fremont, California, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at his home. He was born on February 8, 1929 in Rangoon, Burma. Hok studied in China but had to flee during World War II when the Japanese invaded and occupied China. He returned to Burma and went through an apprenticeship to become a watchmaker. In 1971, Hok immigrated to the United States. He lived and worked in Chicago, Illinois as a watchmaker and assumed the nickname “Tony.” After ensuring that all his children were educated and successful in their lives, Hok retired at the age of 62 and moved to California in 1991, eventually settling in Fremont. Gardening and growing fruit trees became a passionate hobby and he shared the bounty of Asian Pears, Plums, Persimmons, Jujubes, Pomelos, and Guavas with family and friends. Hok was a loving father and is survived by his five children: Philip (Maureen), Joyce (Vincent Chan), Sein (Sally), Aye (Theresa), and Kim (Mark Molnar); 9 grandchildren: Jessica, Jonathan, Jasmine, Alex, Margaret, Delanie, Sophie, Andrew, and Justin; and 3 step-grandchildren: Lakayana, Makeba, and Nygel. Hok was preceded in death by his wife Won Yone in 2011. Funeral services will be held on January 21, 2018 from 10 am – 11:45 am at the Reflection Chapel – Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward, CA. 94544.
