Herman Cohen's Obituary
Herman Cohen, was born on July 20, 1927 in Oakland, California. Herman is a very generous, big-hearted man, who shares all his worldly belongings with anyone who has the good fortune to cross his path. Herman & Charlene left this gift to all of their five sons; Jack, Buddy, Gary, Danny and Scotty. Herman was always a daredevil, as a child. He always thought he could achieve anything within his reach. Until one day, when we fell out of a tree and broke his arm. He was trying to reach for an apple that was just out of reach. Herman worked as a welder in the shipyards during WWII. At the age of 17, he joined the U. S. Navy. He changed his birth certificate and said he was 18. Herman was in Japan when Japan surrendered in 1945. After his discharge from the U. S. Navy, in 1946, Herman married Marilyn McMillan, in 1948, in Portland, Oregon. They had two daughters named, Sara and Pamela. Their marriage only lasted about three years. Herman was driving a public bus when he met his second wife Charlene (AKA Sonny). Sonny used to board Herman's bus and ride with him to the end of his route and they would sit and talk. Herman and Sonny got married in Vancouver, Washington, in 1951. They have five sons named, Jack, Buddy, Gary, Danny and Scotty. Herman has one brother, Nathan & three sisters, Nadine, Jean and Annette. Herman has been a volunteer at Kaiser in Hayward, California for the past 25 years.Family and Friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Thursday, June 13, 2002 from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home - Mission Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 14, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home - Mission Chapel with Entombment to follow at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park; 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward, CA 94544.The family has requested in lieu of flowers donations may be sent in his memory to Kaiser Foundation Hospital: Senior Volunteer Program; 27400 Hesperian Boulevard, Hayward, CA 94545.CHAPEL OF THE CHIMES MEMORIAL PARK & FUNERAL HOME -HAYWARAD, CA (510) 471-3363."SERVICE OF MARKED DISTINCTION"
