Henry Luna's Obituary
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith” ~2 Timothy 4:7
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Henry Luna, who passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the age of 83 to be with the Lord.
Henry was born on February 25, 1942, to Celso and Maxima in Martinez, CA.
He was the 7th of 8 children.
He spent his childhood playing cowboys, riding bicycles, scooters and helping his father out in the yard. In elementary school, he loved to trade his burritos with other students for sandwiches and would laugh when they couldn’t handle the hot sauce.
At 23 years old, he married Judy Minami in Richmond, CA, where they resided until later moving to Hayward. Henry and Judy just celebrated their 60th Anniversary this past February. They were blessed with 5 children and also enjoyed countless family pets including Boots, Boe, Daisy, Mama Cat, Barney, Yoda, and most recently, Patches, Riley and their 4 cats.
Henry worked as a Pipe Fitter and retired after 30 loyal years from US Pipe. Upon retirement, he later began a new career, carpooling grandchildren to/from school. He was known as Grandpa to many in the drop off lane and at middle school basketball games.
Henry was an athlete, an avid runner, running several marathons. He was a musician and played the congas with Los Bohemios for many years. Henry also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and camping. He especially loved road trips, piling the family into a VW bus and driving to Southern California for an annual Disneyland trip and to visit family. Henry was proud of his Mexican heritage, and it became tradition to make a stop at Cielito Lindo on Olvera Street in LA for taquitos with green sauce.
Henry had a great laugh and delivered his famous line when things didn’t seem right, “Call the cops!”
Henry always had a reverence for the Lord. Anytime there was something to celebrate in the family, he would attribute it to God’s blessings. He was a faithful member of New Life Church in San Leandro and worshiped with his family there.
Henry is survived by his wife Judy; his children, Rick, Elizabeth, Matthew and wife Brigitte, Christine and husband Sal and Robert; grandchildren, Matt Jr, Salestino and wife Hailey, Melea, Megan, Sarai, and Jacob. Henry was blessed to have great grandson Elias and “in his own words” two instant great grandsons, Sebastian and Asher. He is also survived by his loving sister, Carmen.
Henry loved his family, his extended family, siblings, and his in-laws. He was proud of his many nieces and nephews and enjoyed spending time with all of them.
Preceded in death by his parents Celso and Maxima, sisters Josie and Vicky,
brothers Raymond, Lagro, Tuck, and Cleo.
Although Henry is gone, he will live in our hearts forever.
Henry’s Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, May 23rd at the Reflection Chapel at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward, CA at 4pm.
