Hem Raj's Obituary
HEM RAJ was an honest, humble, hardworking, and self-less man. He is survived by 6 children, his late son, and their spouses; 10 grand children and 11 great-grandchildren. Amongst his close family and friends he was known as “Veerji.” Veerji passed from this world on December 30th 2016 at the age of 86.Veerji was born on January 26th 1930 in Delhi, India. He was a chef specializing in India Mithai (sweet desserts). He lived in India until 1974. He worked for various Indian restaurants in India, Hong Kong, and San Francisco Bay Area. He felt his duty in life was to work hard and serve his family. He retired in 1996 after serving over 40 years. After retirement, he continued to be involved in helping the family.He was married to Rani Raj in 1947. They lived in India for many years, and then immigrated to San Francisco. They were of the first few Asian Indians to walk the hills of San Francisco. In the Bay Area, they had each child come to the United States to start a new chapter in their own lives. Then, he was able to see his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. During his last days, he was looked after by many, but truly taken care of by his son, Brij Mohan.
