Helen Patricia Cathey's Obituary
Helen Patricia Cathey, 85, of Union City, passed away from lung disease on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Washington Hospital in Fremont, California. She was born on January 26, 1933 in Merced, California to Hugh and Isabel Moore. She married Harroll Cathey on March 1, 1953.Helen is survived by her devoted son Brian (Lydia) of Castro Valley; cherished grandchildren Andrew and Erin.Preceding Helen in death her beloved husband of 53 years, Harroll “Arkie” Cathey; brothers William Hugh Moore (Mabel) of Castro Valley and Clare Thomas (Tom) Moore of Bakersfield.Helen grew up in Fresno, graduated Roosevelt High School in 1950 and attended Fresno State University. She moved to Oakland, where she graduated as an RN from the Highland School of Nursing. After providing patient care for over 25 years, Helen went back to school and received a Bachelor of Arts in Health Services Administration from St Mary’s College in 1978. She worked as an Administrator for several post-acute and senior living facilities until she retired in 1991, when she became a full-time grandma.Helen and family spent most years living in Fremont and San Leandro. She moved Roseville and enjoyed several years at the Del Webb community. She devoted much time to her grandchildren, helping to raise them as babies and traveling together on cruises when they grew up. She adored her precious dogs, Missy and Peanuts. She was an avid reader, loved to shop and play the slots. Local Indian casinos are forecasting a 2nd quarter loss in revenue. Her family will always treasure the memories of Helen’s holiday rolls, birthday cakes and chocolate cream pies. Her giving, honest, down to earth, fun-loving spirit will be her treasured legacy to her family.Helen spent her final years at Acacia Creek-Masonic Homes Community, where she enjoyed the camaraderie of exceptional people and happy hours at the Turkey Roost. During this time, Helen was very proud to become a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.A Family Graveside Service for will be held on Friday, May 11 at 10am. A gathering to remember Helen will be held following the service at Acacia Creek Masonic Homes, 34400 Mission Blvd, Union City, 5th Floor.
