Haruye SakamotoMarch 4, 1924 – November 8, 2017San Leandro, CAHaruye Sakamoto was born in Newcastle, CA and grew up in Penryn, CA until the family was relocated to Tule Lake Relocation Center in 1942. In 1955, Haruye married James Sakamoto in San Luis Obispo and then moved to San Lorenzo where they started a family with two sons, Jerry and David. Haruye was preceded in death by her husband James in 1962 and raised her two sons on her own. After working for the Okada Nursery, she worked for Blue Cross of California until she retired in 1988.Haruye loved to work in her garden, growing orchids and vegetables. She also loved to watch the Oakland A’s play baseball at the Coliseum or on TV. She also liked to cook for family or church gatherings whenever she could get a chance.Haruye is survived by her two sons, Jerry and David, daughter-in-law, Amy and her two grandchildren, Minako and Kenji.A Memorial Service will be held at the Buddhist Church of Oakland, 825 Jackson Street, Oakland, CA on November 18, 2017 at 2:00pm.
