Hartley Berman's Obituary
Hartley Berman, was born in San Francisco, California, January 8, 1914, to Abraham and Bella Kanevsky Berman. He died in Napa, California on February 23, 2003 after a long illness. He had lived in Hayward, California for 43 years.In 1934, he married his 'Honey Girl', Virginia Akers, with whom he shared 58 happy years. Hartley and Virginia had three children, Joyce, Sandy and Wayne.As a young man, Hartley worked for his father in the fruit and vegetable business in San Francisco, California. During WWII, he worked as a machinist at the Bethlehem and Richmond shipyards, building Liberty Ships. After the war, he became Grand Auto Supply's first employee, managing several of their stores until his retirement in 1976.Survived by his children; Joyce Green (Doug), Sandra Hershenhouse (Dr. Samuel) and Wayne Berman (Judi); grandchildren; Skip and Linda Martin, Marjorie and Maurice Gonzalez, Russ and Lisa Martin, Michael, Mathew and John Green, Kelly, Chris and Marielle Berman; great-grandchildren; Drew, Rachel, Danielle and Shannon; niece and nephew; Linda Arons and Alan Berman.Family and Friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Sunday, March 2, 2003 from 5:30 p.m. ' 8:30 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home.
