Slow Step, World Spinning Last Thoughts with Grandpa Poem by Jennifer Blenis As you walked slow step at a time slow step with 90 years past I think how much has changed in front of those ocean blue eyes As you speak of your first days Living in the cotton fields of the Sooner State With your four siblings An honest day’s hard work think how different time Turned back then wonder what pictures spread ACross your thoughts As we slurp our sweet treats At the now Retro Drive-in Think of the dates you took grandma City girl and Country boy Cracking jokes to her As she smirked, chuckled You charmed As courting came to love And love came to Marriage Your life changed again and again With daughters, Then grandchildren, To great-grandchildren Now the world spinning so fast You stood tall and handsome Proud as can be As I stare at memories in gloss I remember hugs and laughter How blessed I have been to have you Always cheering us all on Always trying to make us smile With jokes beyond my time I know someday that will be mine As you walked slow step at a time You turned to me with laugh lines covering your eyes And say those words I have always heard when you say good-bye ?Grandpa loves you And don?t you forget? I love you too, Grandpa
