Harduman Singh Mahal's Obituary
With deep sorrow and sadness, the Mahal family announces the passing of our Bapu Ji, Harduman Singh Mahal. He left us peacefully on May 18th, 2025, at 3 AM in Live Oak, California.
Bapu Ji was born on July 7th, 1932, in a small village, Kalal Majra, District Ropar (originally Ambala), to Late Chamel Singh Mahal and Nasib Kaur Mahal. He had two siblings, his brother Master Badan Singh Mahal and his sister Jit Kaur Batth.
As a child, he was not sent to school, since his father needed one son to stay and farm the land. His father also passed away when he was young, forcing him to grow up in difficult circumstances at an early age.
Not long after, he was married to our Biji, Pritam Kaur Mahal, from Village Mamupur, District Patiala.
He is survived by his wife and 3 sons, Mehar, Surjit, and Makhan and his daughter Manjit, as well as his 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Despite his hard life, Bapu Ji had great aspirations. He shared a story about a village Chokidar once questioning him on why he was making such large gates at the entrance of their small home. He answered him that one day big cars will be rolling through this gate.
Two values that were important to Bapu Ji and that he passed down through the generations include his religious faith, and giving back to the community, no matter how much or little one has. With the income from his land and the help of his sons, Bapu Ji helped build a Gurdwara in our village, Kalal Majra, which is continually being updated and expanded with a Langar hall.
Our family will forever remember what he achieved despite his limited resources.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Bapu Ji’s life and legacy.
