Harchand Kharod's Obituary
On Monday, December 17, 2018, Harchand Singh Kharod, loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 81. Harchand was born on April 18, 1937, in Patiala, Punjab India to his parents Jeevan and Permaisuri. He worked as a Primary School Teacher before he immigrated to the United States in 1965 on a student visa. In 1973, he received his degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno. He worked in the industry for 28 years, working for companies such as Canadian Pacific Railways in Canada, Texas Instruments, Applied Materials and Varian Medical Systems, Inc., after retiring in 2001 as an engineer; he pursued a new career in real estate until he fully retired in 2007. On February 28, 1960, Harchand married Baljit Kaur Chowhan. Together they raised two daughters, Surinder and Narinder, and one son, Jasjit. Harchand was a devoted father who loved to entertain friends and family. He enjoyed blasting his Punjabi music and dancing with the family. He enjoyed traveling abroad as well as locally. When Harchand studied in Reno, Nevada, he worked as a bus boy and a waiter, where he obtained his passion for fine food and cocktails. He did love to do the occasional travel to Lake Tahoe and Reno and spend time at a Black Jack table. Harchand was preceded in death by his father, Jeevan; his mother, Permaisuri; his brother, Mangal; and his sisters ,Tej and Hardit. He is survived by his wife, Baljit; his three children, Surinder, Narinder (Scott) Williams, and Jasjit (Regina); his five grandchildren, Reese Williams, Janey Crown, Bryce Williams, Jessica Crown, and Johnna Kharod; and, four great -grandchildren, Jayden Fanslow, Jonathan Williams, Phillip Williams, and Madison Bateman. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 23, 2018, at Chapel of the Chimes Hayward, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA. 94544 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., with continuing prayers at the Sikh Gurdwara San Jose, 3636 Gurdwara Ave., San Jose, CA, 95148. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sikh Gurdwara, San Jose, on behalf of Harchand Kharod, would be appreciated by the family.
