Gurbachan Singh's Obituary
Capt. Gurbabchan Singh(affectionately known by family and friends as Dar ji), age 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 1st 2017 @ 6:50 pm at Regional Medical Centre in San Jose, California.He was born at the residence of Late Sardar Sant Singh Ji (father) and Late Harnam Kaur (mother) on March 12, 1939 in Sialkot, Pakistan. He was the second eldest of five brothers and one sister. During the partition of India and Pakistan, in 1947 they migrated to Fatehbad, Punjab near the Goindwal Sahib Gurdwara.He served the Indian army(fought 2 wars with Pakistan in 1965 and 1971) for 32 years and retired as a respectful captain. He was recognised in his life many times. One of his proudest accomplishments was when he was awarded by president V.V. Giri for bravery medals in the army.In 1955, he married Jaswinder Kaur(wife) and was blessed with two sons and two daughters, who are now well settled. All four brothers and their families moved from Punjab to New Delhi, India in 1958, living as a joint family.Capt. Gurbachan Singh, truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; loved to share patriotic stories, travel the world, and spending time with his grandchildren.We will always remember him as a strict, loving, and joyful brother, husband, father, grand father and newly great grand father.
