GLORIA REDMOND's Obituary
Gloria D. Redmond December 2, 1937 ' June 18, 2013 Resident of FremontGloria Redmond, 75, passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2013. She was born in Chicago, IL to parents James and Velma Martin. She was the eldest child in a family of three sisters and a brother. She attended George Washington Carver High School and graduated from Wendell Phillips High School in Chicago.She married her high school sweetheart Donald Redmond on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1956 and they recently celebrated their 57th Anniversary. From this loving union, they were blessed with two sons, Martin and Anthony. She was also a mother figure to an 'adopted' daughter Damienne. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Velma Martin.Gloria leaves her husband Donald; her son Martin, his wife Gigi and their children Stephanie, Tyson, Monica, and Taylor; and her son Anthony, his wife Dawn and their children Tinisha, Gloria, Anthony, and Briana; and a great grand daughter; along with sisters Ruth Threat, Joan Cooper, Janice Horton-Martin, and brother Ernest Martin.After moving to California in October 1969, Gloria worked in the film processing industry. She loved to continue her education at adult schools, to sew, to dance and to make arts and crafts. She retired from work as a Realtor.She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched in her lifetime.Her favorite Bible passage was John 3:16: 'For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.' Her favorite hymn was 'Amazing Grace.'Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 23 from 5-8 pm at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA 94544. A Chapel Service will begin on Monday at 1:30 pm at the funeral home followed by a repast at the residence of Martin and Gigi Redmond. As Gloria and Donald wished, cremation will follow on Tuesday at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Gloria Redmond to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY 10001.
