HOLMES, GLORIA JEAN's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Gloria J. Holmes, who departed this life on November 15, 2024. Born on December 8, 1949, in Yazoo, Mississippi, Gloria lived a remarkable life filled with faith, love, and an unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and the community she served.
Gloria was a woman of extraordinary strength and grace, grounded in her unwavering faith in the Lord. She dedicated her life to living by the Word of God, inspiring countless lives with her selflessness, kindness, and generosity. Baptized in 1988, Gloria committed her heart and soul to God, leading a life that was spiritually prosperous and filled with purpose.
Gloria was a shining example of resilience and compassion. She embraced life’s challenges with courage and tenacity, always putting others before herself. She believed in the power of community and was known for her open heart, always ready to help anyone in need. Whether offering a warm meal, a comforting shoulder, or the shirt off her back, Gloria embodied the essence of unconditional love.
In addition to her faith, Gloria had a love for cooking, reading the Bible, and basking in the serenity of the beach. These simple joys reflected her deep appreciation for the beauty of life and her ability to find peace even in the smallest moments.
Gloria took on one of her most cherished roles when she became the guardian of her grandson, Paul Lee Jr., at the age of two. From that moment forward, Paul became her world. Together, they forged an unbreakable bond, one that was rooted in love, trust, and mutual respect. Gloria not only raised Paul but also shaped him into the man he is today. She was his rock, his best friend, and his guiding light, and their love for one another was a testament to her enduring legacy.
Gloria was also an ambitious and hardworking woman. As a real estate agent with a bachelor’s degree, she used her knowledge and skills to create opportunities for herself and her loved ones. Despite any hardships, she made a way for her family and instilled in them the importance of perseverance, faith, and community.
Her infectious positivity, warm laughter, and charming personality left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Gloria could find humor in any situation, and her tenacious spirit was evident in her ability to “make a dollar out of fifteen cents.” She was truly a woman of wisdom, courage, and boundless love.
Gloria’s love and legacy extend beyond her immediate family. She is survived by her beloved sister, Cora B. Collins; her daughter, Gloria Moore, and son-in-law, Bart Moore; her grandson, Paul Lee Jr., and his daughters, Ja’lea Lee, Aaliyah Lee, and Ty’Annah Lee; and the mother of Paul’s children, Monique Garcia. She also leaves behind her grandson, Jimmy Mallory; her nieces, DD, Sherry, Edith, Vivian, Cheryl, Lucretia, Mona, Cynthia, Pookie (Redman), and Tameka; and her great-nieces and nephews, LaKenya, Kiona, India, and Lamar, along with countless other family members and friends.
A Life Lived in Faith
Two of Gloria’s favorite scriptures encapsulate the life she lived:
Galatians 6:9 – “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Titus 2:12 – “We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God.”
Gloria embodied these teachings every day of her life, offering love, wisdom, and guidance to all who crossed her path.
A Grandson’s Final Tribute
“Today, I say goodbye to the most important person in my life, my beloved grandma. She wasn’t just my grandmother—she was my rock, my glue, my guide, and the person who raised me since the age of two. Her love and wisdom shaped who I am today, and for that, I’m forever grateful. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for her. God, thank you for bringing her up underneath your wing. I know she hasn’t left me—she’s still with me. Thank you, Grandmother. I will forever cherish you and walk in the path that you have guided me. You’ve helped me through so much, and I couldn’t have done it without you. I love you forever.
— Your Grandson, Paul Lee Jr.
