Gloria J. Caufield's Obituary
Gloria J. Caufield was born in her grandmother’s farmhouse in Rudy, Arkansas on June 5, 1941. She passed away peacefully in her Fremont, CA home on December 31, 2017.Gloria came to California with her mother Lois as a baby, living in Alameda County for the rest of her life. She graduated from Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo, where she met her husband of 57 years, Lambert, who cared for her throughout her long battle with cancer. She is also survived by her five children, Rex, Brenda, Patrick, Brian, and Kelly, eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.In life, Gloria spent most of her time and energy in the service of others. While her children were young, she drove on school field trips, served as room parent and on PTA boards, and started a school fundraising business with her lifelong friend Harryette. She worked for the school district as a classroom aide for 30 years, most of which she spent working with special education students. Gloria also volunteered her time to her children’s sports and extracurricular activities, serving as troop leader for girl scouts, scorekeeper for baseball, and team parent for soccer and cheerleading.Besides raising five kids together, Gloria and Lambert ran a gift business and later a cactus business, and also enjoyed gardening and scenic rides on “the tandem” bike. In her retirement, Gloria enjoyed knitting, making jewelry, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting and school events.A public viewing for Gloria will be held on Tuesday, January 9, from 5-9pm, at Chapel of the Chimes Mission Chapel. A public service will be held on January 10, from 10-11 am, in the same location.
