Gerardo P Quijano Jr.'s Obituary
Gerardo P Quijano Jr, 73, Hayward, CA passed away peacefully at 11:15 am on August 15th, 2018 at Eden Medical Center. He was the eldest son of the late Gerardo S Quijano and Alejandra Papa. Born on July 15th, 1945 in Manila, Philippines. He attended school at Dr. Albert Elementary and National University where he received a scholarship. He was an accomplished swimmer, as part of the NU Swim team he won a lot of medals in competitions. At the age of 7 years old, he started helping at the family-owned car repair shop where he became a self-taught mechanic. His father left him in charge of the shop when his father was assigned to work in Vietnam. He also worked as a merchant marine traveling Asia for 7 months and as an auto mechanic in Saudi Arabia for 2 years. He moved to California and became a master technician in the early 1980s. He also obtained some ASE certifications for auto mechanics. He met his life partner Angelina Whelan on March 15th, 1995. They lived in Los Angeles, San Diego and finally settling down in Hayward. Gerry (or Kuya Boy) is survived by his 5 brothers, Amado, Valentin, Rosalino, Edgardo, and Joselito as well as a half sister, Loreto Quijano Pavia. He is also survived by four children, Alexandria Shanks (Lancaster, CA), Gerardo Quijano III (Spring Valley, CA), Vincent Eric Quijano (West Covina, CA), Jocelyn Quijano MacKenzie (Aberdeenshire, Scotland), 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
