GERALD KEITH LEO's Obituary
Gerald Leo,61, beloved husband, father and friend, died Sunday of natural causes. Survived by wife, Vera, and children, Kimberly and Gregory. We will all miss him dearly. Gerry enjoyed traveling, fishing, reading, the stock market, working out at the gym, massages and laying on the beach. A community activist and long-time Oakland resident, Gerry found his passion aiding and supporting all ethnic groups in their fight for justice and equality and was active in the civil rights and affirmative action movements in the 1960’s. Before retiring in 1993, Gerry was responsible for Oakland’s Community Resources & Volunteer Program. In addition to being a member of the board of the New Oakland Commitee and the Oakland Chinese Community Council, he was also responsible for founding local organizations such as the East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation where he served as president, director and chairman. An Associate Director of the United Way of the Bay Area throughout the 1970’s Gerry was instrumental in delivering the first funds ever by the United Way to Asian America organizations. Services are to be held Friday, September 10 at 3:30pm at the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland. Please send donations to API Legal Outreach in San Francisco in Lieu of flowers.
