She was the eighth of ten children (Hazel, Marian, Ralph, Lloyd, Earl, Lorne, Evelyn, Georgia, Paul, and Robert). Georgia spent most of her youth in British Columbia, Canada. She was known as Aunt Dode to her many nieces and nephews. The Phillips family were neighbors to her brother Lloyd and Georgia met young George Phillips while visiting her brother’s family in Kelowna, B.C. They soon married on December 20, 1945 and moved to Alameda, CA after George’s discharge from the Canadian Army. It was there they had three (3) children. Lorne first, then Joyce and Jackie.Georgia utilized her wonderful cooking skills working for the Alameda Maternity Hospital for a short while. She then cooked for a family in Piedmont, CA. All who knew Georgia will testify that she was an excellent cook and baker. She was a manager of a grocery store in Alameda during WWII. She continued her career as a retail food clerk for over 40 years retiring at 63 years old.Following their retirements, George and Georgia travelled quite extensively. They visited Hawaii twice, then Europe where they met many of George and Georgia’s relatives for the first time. They traveled numerous times to Canada to visit family.Georgia Phillips was a talented artist and craftsperson. She painted everything from clothing to portraits. She worked during the holiday seasons painting store-front windows for various businesses in the Bay Area. She painted beautiful scenery, cartoon characters, animals, etc. on the windows for her clients. As well as painting, Georgia also created gorgeous dolls and little doll broaches. She made them, painted them, attached and styled the doll hair, hand sewing clothing and shoes. Many times she was asked to sew dresses for a family or friend’s wedding. She made quilts for new babies and loved ones who were ill. Georgia would give a warm loaf of banana bread, a bowl of soup, or freshly baked cookies as a testimony of her faith to a new neighbor. Georgia was more than happy to share and donate her time and crafts to Three Crosses Church in Castro Valley, CA, where she and George were active members for over 50 years. As busy, talented, and generous as she was, Georgia always would have/make time to share her faith and strength through prayer. Hallelujah! What an awesome prayer warrior she was.Georgia leaves behind her three children, six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She was almost ninety-seven years old when she passed Thursday, August 29, 2019. She will be greatly missed by all of us. If ever we could be comforted and sure of something, it would be that Georgia is now serving the Lord in heaven and praising Him at the foot of His throne.· Because Georgia had such love and commitment for children and loved being a foster grandma the family ask that in lieu of flowers, a donation to one of the following charities :Alameda County Foster Parent Assoc. @ 1271 Washington Ave. #659, San Leandro, CA 94577 OR East Bay Orphan Care %First Presbyterian Church of Hayward, 2490 Grove Way, Castro Valley, Ca 94546.Attn: Pastor Jake
