I will share a lasting, unforgettable moment hours before my father passed away. For all of you who know my Dad, you will agree his lack of sense of humor, and his "Archie Bunker" attitude shined thru this last loving but serious gesture to his eldest son...
It was early Saturday morn, (11/19/22) The paramedics were called in about 2:50AM, the caregiver called me and then 911, Dad had sat up fell asleep and fell onto the floor, the care giver could not get him up off the floor as he argued he wanted to sleep there, when I got there, the Paramedics agreed he had no injuries and no need to take him to emergency, so they ushered him back into his bed. As he laid in the bed, I gently lectured him that "Hey Dad, if the Caregivers want you to lay down and go to sleep, you need to do what they say" My Dad grumbled in agreement. Now I said, "it's time to get some sleep, you need to use your Cpap this time" Again he grumbled in agreement. "OK Dad give me a Thumbs Up or Down if the CPAP feels right? My Dad looked at me in disgust like "Really?" and slowly his left fist raised up to give me the middle finger salute. The Care giver and I start busting up laughing... That's my Dad!
I stayed till 4:30 AM as he slept soundly, not knowing that would be the last time I would kiss on him on the forehead and a simply say "love you, see you later" Dad was briefly awake to acknowledge the caretaker prepping to make him breakfast... I got a call at 7:30, he was pronounced at 7:41AM
