George Clayton ConeNov. 20, 1928 – Apr. 7, 2018Union City, CA.George Clayton Cone 89, of Union City, CA, went home to the Lord on April 7, 2018 due to complications from Parkinson’s and cancer. He was born in Lakeland, FL. on Nov. 20, 1928. Clayton joined the Army after graduating from Lakeland High School. He served in the Army as Technical Sergeant and earned his BS degree in Biology from Florida Southern College through the G.I. Bill. Clayton’s 55+ year career was with Standard Brands, Nabisco and Lallemand, Inc. He was a technical expert and consultant in yeast fermentation. He shared his expertise around the world with wineries, breweries and distilleries. He received two Honorary Doctorate Degrees for his research and development in fermentation technologies. Clayton was a member of the Bay Hills Community Church of Hayward, CA. He was active in the church and served as leader of the senior group for 5 years. He was also a member of the senior walking group in Union City, CA. In addition to travelling the world for business and pleasure, he enjoyed continuing education and attending live theater in the bay area. Clayton’s generous and affable nature made him many friends at home and across the globe.Clayton is survived by his wife, Terry, of 27 years, sisters Frances and Betty Jane of FL, son Philip of NC, daughter Cynthia of FL, stepsons Steve, Rich, Rob and Ray of CA, granddaughter Tiffany of NC, step-grandson Logan of CA. Clayton was preceded in death by his parents George and Nellie Cone of Lakeland, FL.The Celebration of Life service is being held on Sat. Apr. 14, 2018 11 am at Bay Hills Community Church 25830 Gading Rd, Hayward, CA. The viewing is being held on Sun. Apr. 15, 2018 from 5-9 pm at Chapel of the Chimes mission chapel 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward, CA. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Parkinson’s and Cancer foundations.
