Gary, or Mr. Rodgers as I called him, was my PE teacher in high school. Met him in 1994. He was hands down one of my favorite teachers. Sad to learn of his passing. My condolences to his Wife and family.
I am glad Gary saw Budapest. God bless you both. Ildiko
I met Gary as a team mate at Cal-State Hayward basketball. Gary always had a positive look on life. He was our center and at 6’5” he play guys that were 3 to 4 inches taller. Gary led the nation in a category in my first year. he led the nation in fouls. We would tease him about that for many years. When we play the rule was you had to raise your hand if you made the foul and if you didn’t you got a technical foul as well. We needed Gary so much for his rebounding I would raise my hand to take the foul. Years later we talk about this and had many laughs. I told Gary if I only new of his record I would not have raised my hand. In the last several years we started playing Bocce Ball in Livermore. We would make sure to play on our birthdays. Joe Fuccy,Jack Kavanagh, Art Keller, and me Rich Rollins. These were memories for all. Gary is a wonderful friend.
He was the best pe teacher. He was a grwat boss at the syep program! I remember him playng jazz om the radio How sad rip
It was over 55 years ago that we met as classmates, then teammates, then opponents and then teammates again. More importantly, the 55+ year friendship is what I will remember and miss most. I salute you Captain Rodgers……………..Joe Fuccy
Ah! Thank you Joe, that is a wonderful tribute!
Tracy, you said you would post Gary in the hot pink shorts and you did!! I LOVE it! What has happened to all those “young” people in this photo!?
