He spent 45 years in the brokerage business retiring as a registered stockbroker for RBC Dain Rauscher, (members of the NYSE).He met Margarette Davis when she began working in the San Francisco office of Mason Brothers. Gary worked in the main office in Oakland. The day he visited the SF office it was love at first sight for both of them. This began a six week courtship and they were married for 58 wonderful years. They raised two sons.Despite contracting polio at age two he never let it hold him back from a full life with family, friends and his hobbies/passions. He endured almost two years of surgeries as a 15 year old which eventually allowed him to walk without a brace and was tutored at home, missing his eighth grade classroom instruction. Spending so much time in bed recuperating, he listened to the horse races and enjoyed the challenge to compete with the newspaper horse experts. He could pick the horses by reading the charts and did well at it. This led to his passion for collecting thoroughbred horse racing memorabilia beginning at age 15. The rest of his life was spent in this endeavor and was very enjoyable and fulfilling. He gained many friends all over the world as well as a wonderful collection that satisfied him. He became an expert in his field as well as in ephemera related fields. He also loved photography; especially, trees and flowers in their various seasons as well as his family and pets and was a phenomenal chef. Gary enjoyed playing golf as well as watching it along with many other sports. He was noted for his intelligence and quick wit. He loved many kinds of music: rock ‘n roll, country western and classical. He always said the ‘50s was a great time in which to grow up.He had a special love for cats because they were good companions for him while he was confined to bed as a child recuperating from multiple surgeries.
