Taufaasau Sr, Francis Elise's Obituary
Taufa’asau Francis Sr. Taufa’asau, passed away while holding his loving
wife’s (Vaitupu) hand on Saturday February 1, 2025. He lived a full life
of 85 years.
He was born June 20, 1939 in American Samoa. After graduating from
Waipahu High School on O’ahu, Hawai’i, as an All-Star athlete playing
multiple sports, Francis enlisted in the United States Navy where his
first years were stationed with his father in Barber’s Point, O’ahu.
During his 20 year commitment, Francis belonged to the legendary
Seawolves of the Vietnam War. Granting him many awards, even ones
awarded by the POTUS. Nicknamed “Hammerhand Frank” for his
athletic abilities, he broke records in volleyball, racquetball, handball
and even football worldwide Navy divisions. To this day, some of these
records still remain. While volunteering for the Seawolves, Francis' main
rating was that of a jet mechanic. 18 years into his service he transferred
to Alameda, Ca. where he retired. Due to the long strike within the
airline industry and to ensure security for his (still) young family,
Francis decided to work in the USPostal Service instead where he retired
after another 20 years. His sacrifices and achievements proved him to be
a wonderful family man, a dedicated worker, and a man to be cherished
and looked up to.
Francis is survived by his wife Vaitupu, four children (two deceased), 12
grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren (and counting).
Services will be held at The Chapel of the Chimes Hayward, CA as
follows:
Thursday February 27th from 3-8. Rosary to be done first followed by
visitation.
Friday at 11am will be a service at St. Bedes Catholic Church in Hayward,
CA and burial at The Chapel of the Chimes of Hayward after.
