Florence Kathleen Wicklow's Obituary
FLORENCE KATHLEEN WICKLOW Kathleen Wicklow 88, in comfort and peace, went home to be with the Lord on April 7, 2007. She was born in Columbus County, NC, in 1918. Graduating from high school, she worked at the State Hospital in Raleigh, NC. Graduating from St. Luke’s Hospital and College for Nurses in Philadelphia, PA, in 1942 where she received honors for her compassion and skill during her training. She served as a registered nurse in the US Navy from 1943 to 1944. Moved to San Francisco in 1946 with her husband and daughter. In 1983, after many years of dedicated service as an RN at San Francisco’s St. Mary’s and Mount Zion Hospitals, she retired her uniform, white stockings and starched nurse’s cap that she had proudly worn each working day. Moving to Rohnert Park in 1983, she and Sam enjoyed their years of retirement. A steadfast mom, she was actively involved with the Douglas P.T.A., Girl Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, and Job’s Daughters. She was a member of the Albert Pike Eastern Star. She was the faithful and loyal support of her husband in h is many professional, athletic, social and church-related engagements. Other interests included cooking, sewing, bridge, scrabble, tennis, golf, camping at the Napa Valley Ranch Club and at Yosemite, ballroom dancing, square dancing, and entertaining. A devoted friend, her special kindness will be remembered by many. A member of San Francisco’s First Baptist Church for 38 years, Rohnert Park’s Cross and Crown for 15 years, and Hayward’s Bay Hills Community Church for the past five years. Met beloved husband, Sam, a Navy lieutenant, while stationed at Bainbridge, MD. Married for 59 years, they traveled the world together and enjoyed many cruises during their marriage. Loving mother of three daughters, Emily Caveney of Salinas, Kathie Matthies of Hayward, and Debbie Wicklow of San Bruno; devoted grandmother of Ken, Karen, and Kristen; and proud great-grandmother of Tessa. Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband Sam; sister, Lanie; and brother W.C., both of North Carolina. She is survived by sister, Foy of Virginia, and brothers, Winford and James of North Carolina.
