Flora Hermosura Antigua's Obituary
Flora Hermosura Antigua was born on September 10, 1939, in Manila, Philippines, to the late Estelita and Silverio Hermosura. She was the second oldest of 6 children. Flora grew up in Manila, in a house full of siblings and many of her cousins who studied in Manila. To her family, Flora was better known by her nickname, “Puloy”.
Flora graduated from Far Eastern University, in Manila, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce. After graduating, Flora started working at Seven Star Shipping, where she met her husband, Rodolfo, or better known as Rudy. After 4 years of dating, the two secretly married in 1967, before Rudy started working as a Purser for Philippine President Lines Shipping Company. Flora and Rudy officially got married at Our Lady of Loreto Church on July 6, 1969.
The couple soon started their family and Flora gave birth to their oldest child, Rhodora, in May 1971. When opportunities arose, Flora and Rudy migrated to the United States in April 1973, while Flora was pregnant. She later gave birth to their youngest child Beverly, in September 1973. Flora and her family lived in San Francisco, California, for 10 years before moving and settling in Union City, California.
Flora worked for Hibernia Bank as an Accountant for 2 years prior to working for the City and County of San Francisco. Flora proudly worked for the city for 29 years before retiring. There, she met many life-long friends, who she considered family.
Flora enjoyed drinking Coca-Cola and was fond of Elvis Presley, jewelry, and fashion. For every special occasion, she was extravagant and would always buy a new gown for the event. Flora also enjoyed traveling and gambling, and she loved to shop. She also relished praying, attending Mass and spending time with family and friends.
With her family and friends, Flora and Rudy were able to travel around the world, visiting places such as Egypt, Russia, Germany, Italy, Canada, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Portugal, Hong Kong, Alaska, New York, and Nevada, to name a few. Flora would regularly travel back to the Philippines with Rudy, as well.
Flora had a strong will to live. However, after many health complications, Flora passed away at the age of 82 on Sunday, August 28, 2022, at her home in Union City, surrounded by her family.
Flora was an intelligent, loving, caring, and generous person. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Flora is survived by her husband, Rudy; oldest daughter, Rhodora; son-in-law, Brian; daughter, Beverly; grandchild, Zyllah; four siblings: Corazon (Azon), Rosario (Ebeth), Manuel (Bot), and Marlon; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sister, Teresita (Tita), and her parents.
