Felix Sarsozo VelasquezOctober 30, 1929 – July 27, 2015Resident of Antioch, CAFelix Sarsozo Velasquez passed away in the arms of his loving wife, Antonina Mercia (Mercy) Velasquez, on the morning of Monday, July 27, 2015. With the love and admiration of his family, relatives, friends and those who had the fortune to encounter him, Felix is remembered for his kind and gentle spirit, humble and positive outlook in life and his fair and uplifting nature.Felix was born in Nabua, Camarines Sur, Philippines. As a young boy, he had dreams to achieve greatness in his own way. As a young man, he joined the U.S. Armed Forces, serving 21 years in the U.S. Navy. Continuing his service to our country after retiring from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Personnel Officer, Felix enjoyed a 20 year career as a Mail Carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. During his lifetime, Felix devoted time to humanitarian activities; he was a member of the Maharlika Lions Club, Bay Area Bicol Association, the Nabua Circle Club and the Knights of Columbus. One of his greatest life accomplishments was forming and and leading the Nabua U.S. Veterans Memorial Association. Together with fellow Nabuenos and U.S. Veterans, the association commissioned the construction of a memorial structure in the the town center of Nabua. This memorial serves to to honor and commend those from Nabua who served or are presently serving in the various bodies of the U.S. Armed Forces. Among his activities in his spare time, Felix loved to bowl, watch sports, take walks, spend time with family and friends, sing, and listen and dance to lively music with Mercy.Inspired and thankful for the blessings of his presence, Felix is survived by his devoted wife, Mercy; his five children (and their spouses), Nerissa Ziga (Alex), Judith Intrieri (Paul), Felmer Velasquez (Kelly), Felix Velasquez, Jr. (Rowena), and Michael Velasquez, and 11 grandchildren, Nina and Bradley Gosiengfiao (Judith), Lauren, Jared and Darren Velasquez (Felix, Jr.), Daniel and David (Felmer), Rechelle, Steven, Catrina and Michael, Jr. (Michael).All friends and family are invited to celebrate Felix’s life during services at The Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA. The schedule is as follows: Wednesday, August 5 – Visitation from 5-9 p.m.; Thursday, August 6 – Visitation from 5-9 p.m. (evening rosary at 6 p.m.); Friday, August 7 – Mass at 10 a.m. St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 32223 Cabello St, Union City, CA. Burial to follow at The Chapel of the Chimes.
