Fe Calazan Abueg PalisFe, the youngest daughter of Lino Ner Abueg and Hermogina Calazan was born in Rosario, Cavite, Philippines. She studied in Arellano University where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. At Arellano, she served as Corps Sponsor of the university’s ROTC and was chosen as the “Most Popular Co-ed”. She also represented the university at the Inter-Collegiate Girl of the Philippines pageant held in Baguio City and was a semi-finalist in that competition.In addition to her education degree, Fe pursued optometry at the Philippine Dental College. At that time, she was a full time High School teacher at the Rosario Institute in Rosario, Cavite. At Philippine Dental, Fe served as Corps Sponsor of the ROTC, just as she did at Arellano.Fe was also a fashion model and won the “Best Sports Dress Model” competition in a fashion show held at Manila Hotel. One of the judges during that event was Armi Kusela, Miss Universe of 1952. The winners were published in the Manila Times magazine and other daily newspapers.She was also selected as “Miss Love” of Cavite province in 1953, in a beauty competition sponsored by the Philippine National Red Cross. It is during this period that Fe met her future husband, Francisco Talavera Palis (Paquito), the fourth of eight children of Flaviano Palis and Eugenia Talavera of Los Los Banos, Laguna.Fe and Paquito have been blessed with six beautiful children – their six “mahals” – three boys and three girls. The children spent their early childhood years in the family’s ancestral home in Rosario, Cavite. The family subsequently moved to Manila to be closer to the children’s schools. Through the 1980s, the children finished college and one by one emigrated to the United States.Fe and Paquito later joined their children in the U.S. Fe retired from the Central Bank of the Philippines after 20 years of service. Paquito retired as resident manager of Baseco, a shipyard company in Mariveles, Bataan. Their four eldest children are now married, and they have been blessed with seven grandchildren (and counting) and one great grandson.
