Fawn Rahn's Obituary
Fawn Sprague was born in Otto, Wyoming, March 4, 1920 to Roy and Mattie Sprague. She was the 8th of 11 children. When she was quite young, the family moved to Worland, Wyoming where her father purchased a farm and raised sugar beets, which he sold to Holly Sugar. Roy also raised cattle and most of the family food, much of which was canned for sue during the long winter months. As a young girl, Fawn was always busy doing something. She was highly energetic, in constant motion doing chores around the house. She would clean the furniture so often her brothers and sisters would accuse her of "rubbing the varnish off"! She was not afraid of tackling anything, and giving all she had in accomplishing the task. She loved to do little things for her nieces and nephews. As she visited them, she could often be found making dresses for her nieces. Fawn loved to dance. She was involved in musical plays and she and a cousin performed dance numbers for local gatherings on several occasions. After high school, Fawn went to cosmetology school, working a few years before meeting her first husband, Dr. Claire Armstrong. Together, they had a daughter, Susan. Claire had two sons from a previous marriage, Les and Al. Sue was their pride and joy. During the war years, Fawn worked for the Navy, making short wave radios. After Claire's death, wand while working at Raytheon, she met George. They were married on June 21, 1968, and have remained husband and wife for 33 years. George and Fawn loved to travel and visited many places together, including Wyoming, Montana, the Bahamas and Disney World. They had a summer cabin in the Santa Cruz Mountains and loved to visit it with their children during the summers when they would escape the heat of the Bay Area and relax in the coolness of the redwoods and their cabin. In the last years of her life, Fawn suffered from ill health and memory loss, but George lovingly cared for her, seeing to her every need. Fawn passed from this life Friday, December 28th, 2001. She is preceded in death by her parents, 7 brothers and 2 sisters and her first husband. She is survived by her husband George, a daughter Susan, grandchildren Gregory and Julia, step-daughter Paula, two step-sons Les and Al and their children, her sister Myrl, 27 nieces and nephews, all of whom loved her dearly. The family thanks Steve Atwood who served for more than 20 years as their home teacher and also Mary Blazin and her sister Helen Crane who have served as the Rahn's visiting teachers.
