F. Madeline Courreges' Obituary
Frances Madeline Courreges, known to her loved ones as “Madeline”, passed away at the age of 82 in Stockton, California on Sunday, February 19, 2017 surrounded by her immediate family. Madeline was her parents first child and a “New Year’s baby” born on January 1, 1935 in Pineville, Missouri to her parents, Frank Planchon and Hazel Manis. As a little girl, Madeline and her family traveled by covered truck to California in 1940 and was only able to bring with her a bible, her dolly and her first thimble. Madeline attended San Jose State University for 2.5 years before marrying the love of her life, George Charles Courreges, on October 15, 1955. Madeline worked as a telemarketer for several years while she and George raised their three children, Michael Owen (passed in 1985), Timothy William, and Lynnette Susan in San Leandro, California. Madeline was an active member in Eastern Star, sewing circles, book clubs, bible studies and was a season ticket holder for the Oakland Athletics with her husband for many years. Her favorite hobbies included reading, watching soap operas, sewing, knitting, gardening, shopping and spoiling her three granddaughters, Courtney, Michaela, and Isabella. Her daughter, Lynnette, has fond memories of her mother dressing them to match when she was a little girl. Madeline and George traveled the world to over 50 countries, every time bringing back trinkets from abroad to their loving family members. She is survived by her sister, Lea Ryder of Los Altos, California and brother, Frank Planchon of Columbia City, Indiana, as well as her son, Timothy Courreges and daughter-in-law, Pam Courreges of Tigard, Oregon, and her daughter, Lynnette Ovalle, son-in-law, Robert Ovalle, and three granddaughters, Courtney, Michaela, and Isabella Ovalle, of Tracy, California. In 2007, Madeline and George moved to Manteca, California to be closer to their daughter and granddaughters. Together they enjoyed visits from their granddaughters to play mini-golf, go swimming, play card games, or garden and living the retired life in their new home that they watched be built from the ground-up. In 2014, Madeline and George moved into Prestige Senior Living home where George preceded her in death in 2016. During her time at Prestige, Madeline continued to enjoy visits from her loving family and friends, and attending bingo and yoga classes, getting her nails and hair done, and taking shopping trips. Madeline was a jokester who made sure to voice her opinion whenever given the opportunity and gave her family more love than they could have ever asked for. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed. A service honoring Madeline will be held at 2pm on April 1, 2017 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Manteca, California. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Awareness Foundation.
