Evelyn M. Mull's Obituary
Evelyn Mull, 95 of Union City, CA died May 31, 2017. She was born January 29, 1922 in Battle Creek, MI. Six days later she was adopted by Edward and Mabel Burmeister of Coopersville, MI. She also lived in Muskegon, MI and New Era, MI. Evelyn attended grade school in Beano Township and graduated Shelby High School in 1942 with honors. She played saxophone in the Shelby High School band, marching band, and orchestra. She worked for the Agricultural Adjustment Agency for five years and then moved to Grants Pass, OR where she met Harry Mull. They were married December 23, 1948. In November 1949 Harry was recalled to active duty in the Navy to serve in the Korean War (“the forgotten war”). He was gone for two years, during which Evelyn moved to Berkeley, CA. When Harry returned in 1951 they purchased a home in Kensington, CA where she lived until 2001. Harry died in 1999.Evelyn worked at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley and later for the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART). She was a member of the Sgt. George Logan Chapman Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving many in many offices including District President, District Safety Chair, and National Home for Children Chair. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 292. She was a member of the Vista Cerrito Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving in many offices including Worthy Matron in 1991 and 2000. In 2001 Evelyn moved to Springfield, IL and took a dual membership in Flower City Chapter where she served as Worthy Matron in 2006. She enjoyed attending Illinois Grand Chapter meetings where she served on several committees. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Springfield.In June, 2010 she moved to the Masonic Home in Union City, CA. She continued to attend Eastern Star meetings, served as a Home volunteer, and enjoyed the many opportunities to socialize with other residents.Evelyn is survived by many dear friends who will miss her.
