Eunice Brett's Obituary
Eunice Dean Brett September 16, 1927 – March 28, 2017 Eunice was born in Yale OK. Oldest daughter of Louis Simnitt and Naydean Tindel she had a happy childhood surrounded by her 3 brothers, Raymond Gene, Melvin and Bill, cousins, aunts and uncles. She would often spend time on her familys farms baking and canning with her grandmother or riding horses with her cousins.The family moved to Dinuba CA before WWII. Eunice picked crops with her family, traveling around the state. During the War Louis moved the family to Oakland where he worked building ships. It was in Oakland that her younger sister Lavona was born.Euniceworked in a candy factory while attending Oakland Technical High School. She then met John Thomas Brett who was serving in the U.S. Navy. In 1945 John and Eunice were married in Oakland.After John left the service they moved to Ohio where they both worked in the steel mill. They returned to California after the death of John’s father Patrick Brett.Eunice worked at Marchants calculator for many years. Their only child Barbara was born in Oakland. Eunice worked for the State of California for a time. John and Eunice decided to foster handicapable children and had many children in their family until Eunice retired at age 70.Her husband John died in 1988, they had been married 43 years.Eunice then learned to square dance with the Farmers & Farmerettes and the Fremont singles square dance clubs. She went on to dance with the San Lorenzo Singles where she danced for 10 years.She is survived by her daughter Barbara, brother Bill, and many nieces and nephews.
