Ester Eugenio's Obituary
On Sunday, August 9, 2020, Ester Karganilla Eugenio, a loving wife and mother, passed away at the age of 85 years old. Ester was born on June 24, 1935 in Manila, Philippines to Ciriaco and Filomena Karganilla. She was the youngest child among the 8 children.
Ester studied at Immaculate Concepcion Academy of Manila and earned her Bachelor Degree in Education at St. Theresa College. She was an English teacher at the Philippine Chinese High School. On December 18, 1960, she married Engr. Domingo Rafael, Manager of Reynolds Philippines. They raised three daughters, Marita, Ana Marie, and Eleanor and two sons, Renato Ramon and Geraldo until her husband died on July 14, 1975 due to heart ailment. She continued to raise her children on her own by teaching also at Torres High School. In 1979, she made a career change by joining the National Archives of the Philippines where she enjoyed giving seminars on records and archiving management to different government agencies all over the Philippines. After she earned her master’s degree in Education at the University of the East, she was promoted to Regional Head of Records Management & Archives Office at Subangdaku, Mandaue City, Philippines. Ester retired in 1995 from government service and joined her brother in California. On September 8, 1997, she married Cesar Eugenio, a widower and retired army veteran. Both devoted their time serving the Lord at the Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at San Leandro, CA. They served as acolyte, lector, Eucharistic Minister, and choir member until health issues prevented them.
Ester was preceded in death by her parents Ciriaco and Filomena, first husband Domingo, son Renato Ramon and daughter Marita. She is survived by her husband Cesar, daughters Ana Marie Rafael and Eleanor and husband Victor Alotaya from Castro Valley, son Geraldo Rafael from the Philippines and Cesar’s children Nadine Tom, Carolyn Liard, Jocelyn Castaneda and Jonathan Eugenio and their husbands and wife Jerry, Pierre, Phillip and Shavon respectively.
