Matthew 11:28Essie Lewis was born on October 20, 1928 n Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Born to Betty and Isaac Spicer. She was he eldest and survived, all of her sisters and brothers.She received her Elementary and some High school in Arkansas. She married Emerson Lewis at the age of 15 years old, to which she became widowed to; Essie had 2 children, Thelma Louise and Joseph.Essie relocated to Oakland, California, where she became a member of St. john Missionary Baptist Church, under the late C.J. Anderson. Essie worked as an Domestic Maintenance worker in the city of Oakland, we she raised her 2 children.Essie was a quiet, strong, generous woman. She opened her home to family members and friends. She was a safe haven, for her children and grandchildren. In her later days, after the passing of her beloved only daughter Thelma, she relocated to Hayward, California. She went to the ASB Center for Senior Adults in Hayward; Where she was loved and participated in many activities, she even acquired a nickname “Miss Hollywood” by her favorite bus driver Robert Rodgers, because of her style.Essie will be greatly missed by family, friends and acquaintances. She is survived by her son, Joseph Lewis, 3 grandchildren Angela Rocker, Tara Rocker-Bates and Jason Lewis. 4 great grandchildren, Annette Morris, Darnell Ray E Roberson, Kalysta and Raine Bates. 1 God granddaughter Miesha Williams and her dedicated son in law, Ray Rocker.
