Ernest S. Low's Obituary
On January 31, 2023, Ernest Sing Low, loving husband, father of three and grandfather of three, passed away at the age of ninety-two. Born on May 19, 1930 in San Francisco, to Low See You and Lee Shee he was the youngest of nine siblings. After his mother passed, he went to live with his oldest sister Daisy and her family on their fruit ranch in Suisun, California. He attended Gomer Elementary, with siblings and nephews and nieces, graduated from Oakland Technical High School, and then received an AA in General Business.
In 1964, Ernest married his wife of fifty-eight years, Liliane, and they lived in Oakland where they welcomed their three daughters. In 1972, they moved to San Leandro where they have lived since.
Ernest spent his career as an Aircraft Electrician at the Naval Air Station, Alameda. After retiring, he got a job at his favorite place—the Oakland Coliseum and Arena where he worked as a ticket taker.
Ernest was a faithful member of Aurora Drive Baptist Church for thirty years where he was an usher and even sang in the choir. Since the church closed, he has been a member of Heritage Baptist Church in San Leandro.
He served in the Army from 1951 to 1953, receiving an Army Occupation Medal in Japan. In the 1980's, he was on the board of the Marina Faire Homeowners Association. From 1991 to 2004, he was a member of the San Leandro Library-Historical Commission. He was a board member of the Friends of the San Leandro Library and volunteered at the library gift shop.
Loving, kind, soft-spoken, Ernest was generous beyond words and always willing to help anyone in need.
He joins his sisters Daisy, Theresa, June, Rosie and brothers Richard and Grover. He is survived by his loving wife Liliane; their daughters Jennifer, Kathleen and Becky and her husband Paul; grandsons Ian, Max, Sam; and his brother Norman.
Services will be held February 21, 2023 at 9:00 AM at the Chapel of the Chimes 32992 Mission Blvd in Hayward, CA, with a visitation on February 20, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who are able to instead make a donation to the Friends of the San Leandro Library, 300 Estudillo Ave, San Leandro, CA 94577
