Eric Maurice Mabery's Obituary
In loving memory of Eric Maurice Mabery, a pioneering scientist and world explorer. He was born in Charleston, West Virginia on March 17, 1970, and died an untimely death due to cancer on September 7, 2025. A immunologist who worked in the field of drug discovery, Eric contributed to early breakthroughs in the medical treatment of HIV and HCV. In subsequent years he worked for a range of startup companies pursuing medical innovations. With partners, he also established new businesses in medical testing and other fields. A fearless traveler, Eric pursued his love of biology by exploring ecosystems in Borneo, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and many other countries, often hiring a local guide to accompany him into rainforest, ravine, or coral reef. An avid birdwatcher who often found more birds than his birding guides. A great fan of soccer, Eric also traveled to Brazil, Russia, Qatar, and other locales to watch the World Cup in person. In all, his passport showed over fifty destination countries. Eric loved music, and would DJ in his spare time. Eric taught courses in Biology, Microbiology, and Immunology, often helping his students find jobs in biotechnology companies through his connections. Eric ensured that everyone in his life was well taken care of. He treated his wife like a queen, and provided financial security for his family. He was a kind and caring person that touched the lives of all the people he interacted with. He always tried to help people become the best version of themselves. Eric Mabery was predeceased by his sister, Tiffany Mabery. He is survived by his wife, Shalini Mabery; his mother, Gwendolyn Mabery, and her husband, Lee Mabery; his brother, Bryan Byrd; his nephew, Jaden Winfield; and many cousins.
