Emogene Lorene Phillips' Obituary
Emogene Lorene Phillips, 82 passed on Wednesday, August 7, 2002 at St. Rose Hospital in Hayward, California. She was born to Ottis and Vesta McDaniel on August 2, 1920 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She has been a resident of Hayward, California for 59 years. Emogene came to California form Oklahoma in 1941 and moved to Hayward, California in 1943. Her family was her life. She always had big dinners at her house. She had large events for the holidays and on the weekends at her home. These events were always busy ones. She also loved to play bingo. She was very proud of having helped raise her family and grandchildren.Emogene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Willie James Phillips on April 27, 1983. Her daughter, Willie Jean Brooke and a sister, Dorothy DeArmond and four brothers, Buford Snow, Charles Shepard, Donald and James Ligon, also preceded her in death.Emogene is survived by her loving children, Edna Garcia of Hayward, Linda Dominguez of Newark, Betty Garcia of Newark, Judy Wright of Oakland, Donna Catlett of Fairfield, Cathy Hayes of Modesto, California, Sandra Cunningham of Glendale, Arizona, James Phillips of Hayward, Randy Phillips of Santa Cruz, David Phillips of Hayward and Richard Phillips of Modesto, California. She was a proud grandmother of 42 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.Family and Friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Sunday, August 11, 2002 from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home.
