Emily Lois McGinley's Obituary
EMILY LOIS McGINLEY Emily Lois McGinley was born on March 8, 1923 in Hastings, Nebraska to her parents, Conrad Rhinehart and Kathryn R. Maul. She was the fourth child of her parent’s five children—Robert, Jack, Pat, and Dick (who have preceded her to glory). Emily moved to California during the war era of the 40’s to work at the Naval Supplies. After job her ended, she moved to Sterling, Colorado to live with her aunt. While in Colorado, she worked for a small company as an Accounts Receivable/Payable Clerk. Emily met her husband, Homer Leroy McGinley, then a truck driver of a moving company whom she married in 1957. The couple subsequently decided to move to California, where most of Emily’s family lived. Emily never worked again in a professional capacity or setting after their arrival in California, other than administer her family’s finances and housekeeping until her fateful passing in her Castro Valley home on Wednesday, July 3, 2014.Emily used her resourceful gift of administration and bookkeeping to run her family’s budget and social life during her fifty-seven years of marriage without any late payments. She kept an impeccable record of birth dates of friends and family members, ensuring birthday and holiday cards were mailed out on schedule. Her husband did not have to worry about writing checks and paying bills because Emily was faithful and competent in the management of her home and finances. After her husband’s retirement from the Post Office in 1990, the couple embarked on a periodic tour in their motor home across the country every year until 2011. Emily was reputable for record keeping; she kept a chronological journal that encompassed fascinating typewritten details of photos and comments of each trip—emphasized favorite highlights in cities, states, site scenes, and shops, etc until 2011—their final cross-country tour.Emily loved Line Dancing. She had a teacher, Darlene Scott, who taught her how to perfect her Line Dancing skills. She also loved music and would listen to her favorite tapes until she went to sleep. On the day she fell in her bedroom and broke her hip, Emily had been listening to one of her favorite songs, “Wind Beneath My Wings,” the piano magic of Floyd Cramer, 1991. Emily was the pride of her husband who always walked hand-in-hand with her wherever they went. In fact, Emily and her husband were like Siamese Twins that could not be separated from each other. Her husband was holding unto her “little” hand when death separated them on the morning of Wednesday, July 3rd. Emily and Homer’s marriage evokes the legend love story of Romeo and Juliet—they traveled together, they shopped together, they ate together, they lived together, and they were fond of each other! The closeness of the couple attracted several comments from their admirers, including, their neighbors, friends, nurses, doctors, and even workers at the Bank. Surprisingly, one of Emily’s doctors made this remark to her husband regarding the couple’s closeness a few days before Emily’s death: “I am intrigued by your fondness to your wife and would very like to follow your footsteps when I am your age!” Her husband, on the other hand, would say of Emily: “She never said anything bad about anybody!” Emily would be dearly missed by her loving husband, family—nephews and nieces, and their children, and their friends. Today, your loyal and lifetime companion, your husband, Homer Leroy McGinley, your family and friends are here to bid you farewell—Rest In Peace, Emily!
