Biography Eulogy for Emily Chang
Emily Chang was born on April 26, 1971, in Hong Kong. At age 52, she battled with cancer and
went home to be with God on August 1, 2023.
Emily came to the US as a foreign exchange student in 1992. She studied at the City College of SF,
where she met her husband, Victor Lee. During college, they joined a Christian fellowship together,
and continued to live out their faith throughout their lives. In 1996, Emily graduated with a B.S.
in business information systems from San Francisco State University. She was incredibly smart and
hard-working, and would go on to work as a Software QA Engineer at many impressive tech
companies, including Embarcadero Technologies, Adobe and Google.
Emily and Victor were married in San Francisco in 1997. In 1999, they bought their house and
moved to San Leandro, where they resided until now. She is a runner and a full marathon finisher.
She would always be there to support and be a spectator during Victor’s races. Apart from running,
Emily loved to travel with Victor. They started with family trips to Hong Kong in 1997, and slowly grew to
have many more adventures in Japan, Paris, Hawaii, Taiwan, Malaysia, Mexico and Vancouver. In quiet
moments she liked taking a walk, drawing, painting landscapes and cooking for her family.
Emily had the most amazing smile and personality. She was kind to everyone and everyone loved her,
including dogs and cats. Emily was a fighter, and the strongest person we knew. During her
cancer treatments she did not give up. When the doctor asked what made her happy, she
pointed at her husband. She was always happy when other people were happy.
Emily passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on August 1, 2023.
Thank you, Emily, for blessing our lives and this earth with your presence.
