Elvira Reyes' Obituary
ELVIRA SALAZAR REYES (VERA) ELVIRA SALAZAR REYES (VERA) Vera entered the kingdom of heaven on November 22, 2006 at her daughter’s home after an 11 month battle with brain cancer. She was 77 years old, born May 2, 1929 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She moved to the Tri-City area in 1959. She began her working career at Washington Hospital’s Newborn Nursery as an LVN in 1962. In 1974, Vera received her RN degree and was very proud to have been in the first graduating class of the Nurses program from Ohlone College. She retired from Washington Hospital after 32 years of service. Vera loved attending to her flowers and shopping for a bargain, but especially enjoyed volunteering time to St. Vincent de Paul organization at her parish for St. Anne’s in Union City. She had many life long friends and cherished the time she spent with them. She will be remembered by those who love her, by her glittery sense of fashion. Bling-Bling Vera. We miss you already. She was beautiful, loving and devoted mother to her only child, Belinda Sullivan Gasparian, Grandmother to Christine Sullivan and Great-Grandmother to Timothy, 4 yrs old and Andrew, 8 months old. She also leaves behind her son-in-law Eric Gasparian. Vera is survived by her sister, Mary Diaz of Covina, Ca. and Pete Salazar of Corpus Christi, TX; and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to ST. ANNE’S CATHOLIC CHURCH 32223 Cabrillo Street, Union City, for the Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 AM, Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006 with visitation one hour prior to service at church. In lieu of flowers, Vera and family would be delighted if donations would be made to Pathways Hospice-East Bay or Meals-On-Wheels in Fremont.
