Elsie E. Leandro's Obituary
Elsie E. Leandro Jan. 22, 1927 – Jan. 26, 2012 Formerly of Hayward Elsie Elizabeth passed away peacefully Thurs., Jan. 26, 2012. She was 85 years old. Elsie the daughter of John Tam Sing and Catherine Waiau, was a native of Hilo, Hawaii. In Nov. 1949, she married Jordan Leandro in Honolulu, Hawaii, then moved to California in 1952. Elsie resided in their family home in Hayward until she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2005. She lived with her son in Castro Valley until 2008 before relocating to Southern Oregon to live with her daughter. Elsie was an intelligent, strong, self-disciplined, sweet, loving, caring and thoughtful person. Her many talents were demonstrated in her home making skills and her various jobs. She loved words and had an insatiable passion for word search books. She was amazing at everything she did and never more so, then during her journey with Alzheimer’s. Even in her final stages she handled herself with elegance, grace and dignity. Elsie brought great joy and taught lasting lessons to her family, friends, companions and caregivers. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Jordan of 55 years. She is survived by her daughter, Pam Leandro-Notch of Central Point, Ore; and her son, Wayne of Hayward. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and her extended Ohana. Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 9, 2012, from 6:00 – 7:00 pm with a vigil at 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be Fri., Feb. 10, 2012 at 1:30 pm. Both are at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd.,
