Elidia P. Montejo Torio's Obituary
Elidia Pacheco Montejo Torio was born in Dec. 1, 1943. Her father and mother were Vicente Montejo and Salvacion Pacheco. She came to Minnesota in 1967 to follow her dreams of being a nurse and living the American dream. Although it sounds selfish to leave her family, in all actuality, she did it to provide for her family in the Philippines. Elidia was courageous for setting out on an adventure of her own; She was selfless because everything she did in her work was to help someone else; Elidia was strong because she was lonely and still endured the cultural change from her comforts of the Philippines. She met Alfredo Torio in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he was stationed there with the Army in 1970. Elida was working at the Bernalillo County Medical Center. This is where their love and lifelong relationship grew. Eventually, they made their way to the Bay Area in 1978 where she was able to begin the rest of her career as an ICU nurse with the Department of VA. In November 25, 1981 she gave birth to their twins, Christopher and Christian. Then in January 21, 1987 she gave birth to Sharyl. How she managed to take care of twins and a daughter while still working full time at the hospital still amazes many. She never showed any signs of weakness or any dissatisfaction. As a matter of fact, she continued to show her family and patients continued unconditional love. She is survived by her family in Leyte from her sisters and brothers: Menchu, Sr. Rose, Corina, Bebot, Eddie Boy, her four kids: Juvi, Christopher, Christian, and Sharyl, her granddaughter: Leika, and her husband, Fred. She died on June 9, 2017, at Eden Medical Center, in Castro Valley, where she succumbed to complications that are still unknown to her family.
