Edward Masagalajian's Obituary
EDWARD C. MASGALAJIAN Edward Christopher Masgalajian entered peacefully into rest on Tuesday, July 11, 2006. He was 87 years old. Edward was born on January 1, 1919 in . He came to this country at age two, with his parents, Copernick and Agavni Masgalajian and attended schools in New York City . At an early age, he learned the craft of watch and clock repair from his father and uncle in their business in New York City .Edward joined the Army in World War II as a Medical Technician with the Medical Corps stationed in Hawaii as a Staff Sergeant. After the end of WWII, he and his parents moved to Fresno, CA where he met and married the love of his life, Charlotte . With the help of his wide collection of opera and other classical albums, he wrote and produced a popular radio show called 'Opera Echoes'. Edward, Charlotte, and son, Paul, moved to our Bay Area in 1958 and settled in Hayward . Edward ran his own business in downtown Oakland , 'Grant's Watch and Clock Shop', until his retirement in 1992. Edward was well known in the Bay Area for his expertise in repairing antique clocks. While in Hayward, son, Michael, was born and the family attendedSt.VartanArmenianApostolicChurch in Oakland , where Edward served on the church council several times. Edward excelled in solving crossword puzzles and was never without his puzzle of the day from his 'Daily Review' under his arm. He always won in 'Trivial Pursuit' games especially on subjects of History and Geography. Edward always had a positive attitude about life and had a natural wit and sense of humor, which his good friends and family found refreshing in this day and age. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Charlotte; sons, Paul, of Hayward , and Michael of New York City. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Christine. Edward's presence will be truly missed, but not forgotten. Family and friends are invited to the CHAPEL OF THE CHIMES MEMORIAL PARK AND FUNERAL HOME, 32292 Mission Blvd. Hayward, CA, to attend the visitation on Monday, July 17, 4:30-8:30 PM and on Tuesday, July 18, from 8:30- 9:30 AM. Funeral Service, Tuesday, July 18 at 10:30 AM at the St. Vartan Armenian Apostolic church, 650 Spruce Street, Oakland, CA94610 (off MacArthur Blvd).
