Eduardo (Ed) Garza's Obituary
Eduardo (Ed) Garza
August 11th, 1936 – February 18th, 2022
In Loving Memory of Ed Garza who passed away peacefully at home at the age of 85.
Eduardo was born in Mission, Texas to parents Elvira and Baldomero Garza. Ed was the seventh child in the family with four sisters and three brothers. Ed was baptized at Our Lady of Guadalupe and was known as Lalo by his friends and family in Texas. Ed graduated from Mission High School in 1954. After high school, he joined the armed services and served a combined 8 years in the Air Force and the Navy which brought him to California with his new wife Raquel of McAllen, Texas. Ed and Raquel settled in Union City, raising one son and two daughters, and this is where he spent the rest of his life.
After separating from the Navy, Ed worked at the Naval Supply Center in Oakland for 22 years. Over the years, Ed enjoyed golfing, watching the Oakland Raiders and A’s, and spending time talking on his CB radio where he met some of his best friends. Ed was a skilled handyman, as attested to the many home-improvement projects he completed, and his BBQ ribs would have won awards far-and-wide. Ed had the privilege of retiring in 1986 at the young age of 50. After retirement, he enjoyed many road trips throughout the US with Raquel, visiting family and friends along the way. Ed’s ever-present video camera documented these adventures, which will now become fond memories for his family far into the future.
Preceded in death by his siblings, Arturo, Vera, Abdon, Baldo, Fela, and Odie. Ed is survived by his loving wife, Raquel Garza of 60 years and his sister Aurora Murillo. Also survived by son, Dan Garza (Sharon), daughters Cindy Soto (Lou) and Diana Turner (Steven). He had five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who loved him. He will be dearly missed by his family and will forever remain in our hearts and minds.
