Edna HoustonEdna Geneva Houston was born in Charlie, Texas on April 22, 1923 and left this life here on earth to join other family members and friends in Heaven with her Lord and Savior on December 20, 2016. She battled dementia for many years. She is survived by two sons, Jerry Houston (Carol Houston – wife) from Lodi, California and Kenneth Houston from Georgetown, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Sam Houston and daughter, Beverly Houston. Edna has four grand-children and many great grand-children.Soon after she married Sam, she left the Texas farm and moved to California to start her family. She later started her career in Nursing and for 10 year, worked for the Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, California. She then worked for Kaiser Permanente Hospital for the next 25 years. While working, she attended Chabot College in Hayward and obtained her nursing credentials/degrees. During all these years, she raised her children and gave them love, joy and a Christian heritage. She was devoted to all her children, her husband and provided a home full of love. After her retirement and for many years, Edna provided daily care to Beverly who suffered a brain aneurism at age 42. Also during these years, Edna found time to entertain friends at a local senior center in Tracy, California and in a church. She wrote three songs, played the guitar and harmonica and loved singing. For the past 10 years, Edna was a resident of Arbor Nursing Center in Lodi, California. She soon became a member of the “Arbor Family.” Other residents and employees alike loved her and she loved them. This was her home. She spend most of her days sitting in her wheeled chair in the lobby of the center, greeting those entering and leaving the facility. She knew them all. She would sing her gospel songs and at times, others would join in.Edna Houston will be missed by all who knew her. Her smile would light up when family and friends came to visit her. Although she is now in Heaven with her Lord Jesus Christ, we would love to hug her one more time. We all loved her so much.
