Written by: Janyce HummelIf I had to describe Doris with one word, it would be SUNSHINE. I am so grateful that I was privileged to have had our life’s paths cross and meet such a wonderful person. She will be missed but never forgotten by all the lives she touched.
Our precious Doris Faye Nelms-Rutland…you will be greatly missed. You were one of the most giving and generous people that I’ve had the pleasure of not only knowing, but of also calling my family, my cousin. We love you Doris, You’ve been a huge part of our lives for many, many years. So some of us you’ve been more than just a cousin, you’ve been a mom, Aunt, Grandmother, God Mother, Friend, Counselor/Therapist, and sometimes Uber/Lift Driver. May you rest peacefully, my sweet.Sam and Jessica, I am praying for your strength during this time and know that I love you both with all of my heart.
I got to know Doris when she worked as a substitute at the high school where I worked. She was known for her kind smile and positive nature. She encouraged the kids to try their best and was supportive of them in their challenges. The kids responded with respect. We felt blessed when she was the substitute in our classroom as we knew the day would go well. My condolences to her family and friends.
I will always remember Doris’s glowing smile and gentle voice whenever I said hello and asked how she was.
My God cover you in your time of loss. We will meet again… Anthony Farmer

Knowing her for over 43 years, I became aware of her deep and abiding faith in God and his wonder and fulfillment of all that she knew and understood was good on this earth…Doris is now in a place that she’s familiar with…enjoying the pure joy of being in God’s arms.
