Darshan Singh Deol's Obituary
We are here today to celebrate the blessed life of Sardar Darshan Singh Deol. Mr. Deol was born in Lyallpur District on July 4, 1924, also known as America’s Independence Day. His parent’s names were Sardar Tara Singh and Sardarni Ind Kaur Deol and he was the 5th of 6 children. He attended school in Lyallpur District, finishing his secondary schooling up to the 8th class, traveling a distance of four miles on foot to attend school each day. He attended high school in Arifwala District Montgomery at a distance of five miles on bicycle. In 1941, after matric, Mr. Deol joined Khalsa College in Amritsar in the Agriculture class. He earned his BSC degree in Agriculture in 1945. He was given appointment in the agriculture department in August 1945. On August 20, 1952, Mr. Deol married his wife of 64 years, Dawinder Kaur Deol.Prior to migrating to America in 1984 to be with his sons, Mr. Deol worked as a plant protection scientist in the diseases of crops and food grains in Ludhiana District, as well as at the Sugarcane Research Station in Jalandhar. In 1984, the Faculty and Students of P.A.U. presented Mr. Deol with a distinguished honor award for his contributions to sugarbeet agronomy.Mr. Deol is survived by his five children and their families. Two Sons, Hitpal Deol married to Dawinder Deol; Pritpal Deol married to Ruby Deol. Three Daughters, Kanwaljit Gill married to Baljit Gill; Kiran Kahlon married to Gursharon Kahlon; Rinku Aulakh married to Ritu Raj Aulakh. Thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
